The Danger of Speed

The Concord was known as the fastest and quickest supersonic jet plane of its era from the 1970s all the way down to its closure in 2003. However, with all the speed, with all the glamour, many rich people used it, and many people who wanted to experience the feeling of being in the air, going over a thousand miles an hour. They experienced a plane called the Concorde.

However, in 2000, a mighty crisis occurred. The Concorde plane, on its takeoff, decided to explode. There was fire behind it, and it exploded, and over a hundred people perished.

Now, you can imagine that for the first time, people would have seen that in this world that we live in, speed does not seem to be all that it is accounted for, not all that it is chalked up to be. Speed was something that people glorified, especially during the war era. Speed was something that people saw as a strength, as a power, but this speed caused countless people to die, and this speed was discontinued.

It wasn't even making that much money so if this speed that everybody in the world hails today especially in our contemporary world that says that speed seems to be a reason why people succeed in the contemporary age today. Everything is fast, social media is fast, everybody's looking at who has the most views, everybody's so focused and fixated on how quickly we can get to some type of success. However, as we can see, speed surely isn't always the best option.

There is strength in patience, there is strength in slowing down, and there is strength that comes from not being in a hurry. A favourite verse of mine is Hebrews chapter 6 where it says that in following the examples of the saints who through faith and patience inherit the promises and I love this verse because it speaks of the meaning of the life journey and where it's not always about speed that there's a strength in patience, there's a strength in faith and faith usually involves some type of patience because in order to see it manifest we must believe. It takes some type of strength in character.

If we focus on speed, on it happening straight away, the whole meaning of hope is missing in the link. The person who properly shows this strength of patience is Abraham. Abraham, when he's going to offer up Isaac, he says God will provide, and now in today's world, saying God will provide is seen as silly.

How will God provide when I'm going to work? However, in those times, Abraham was actually very wealthy. He was extremely wealthy, and despite all of this, having a lamb to sacrifice was no problem with all the wealth that he had, but he still said God will provide. This was the faith and his assurance of the promises God had given him.

So, in terms of speed, as with the Concord, speed isn't always a reason to celebrate. Speed isn't always a good thing. Speed doesn't last forever.

Now that doesn't mean that speed is not entirely good, but when we focus on speed instead of following God, it can lead us into problems and many people are harmed, not just us, in the process. So please think about that as we have begun this month on what speed is all about.

Are you in a hurry to get to where you want to go, or are you willing to wait? And even in that waiting, when God opens the doors, do we have the patience to see all come to pass as it says in Hebrews 6, following the saints who through faith and patience inherit the promises. Now this faith and promise is our Lord Jesus and through my own personal examples as I've shown that in my life I've experienced many examples of me wanting to get somewhere quickly. For example, I always desired to be a fashion designer.

I studied it. I did all the work involved, but despite my hurry to achieve this accolade, this fame, God said he wanted me to go a different path, and that my studying of fashion was not in vain, as it taught me many things about discipline. However, when I was willing to let go and give it to the Lord, I was no longer in a hurry anymore.

I was able to enter into God's rest, as it says in Hebrews chapter 4. So I encourage all of you that if you want to really get to where you want to go, if you want to really succeed, follow Jesus. You know he died on the cross, was buried and rose up on the third day so that we could be saved, and we can sit in heavenly places with him, and it says that we are joint heirs of Christ in Romans chapter 8.

So I really do pray that as you're watching this video you'll be able to say with me this Lord's prayer of salvation because he doesn't want you to be in a hurry he wants you to rest in his love rest in his strength and not focus on yourself putting all the heavy load upon yourself trying to get somewhere fast looking for the glamour and excess that this world has to give and being able to just rest in his provision.

Could you say this with me Lord Jesus I come to you as a sinner and I humbly repent for my sins I believe that Jesus Christ is Lord I believe he died on the cross and rose up on the third day I believe that he has washed me with his precious blood and I ask that he comes to my life and be my Lord and Saviour and as you have said that the holy angels are rejoicing as a new person is become a part of the church the glorious bride of Jesus Christ.
